A Brand New Day for Product Placement

Spider-Man: Brand New Day wasn't just a box office phenomenon. It may have marked the return of the blockbuster as marketing's biggest stage.
Beyond shattering ticket sales, the film generated an estimated $309 million in media value across 165 brand partners. What made the campaign stand out wasn't just the volume of brands involved, it was how seamlessly they operated on two levels: inside the film through product placements, and outside the theater through partnerships that kept Spider-Man everywhere audiences looked.
On-screen product placements included Spider-Man using the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip, Liquid I.V. sitting on a shelf in Peter Parker's apartment proving that superheroes are just like us and get hangovers too, and BMW’s lining the streets of Manhattan with accompanying on-screen OOH billboards. Tom Holland’s non-alcoholic beer brand, Bero, even made a quick cameo. These aren't just placements, they're details that make the world feel lived in and relatable.
Product partnerships with Poppi, McDonald’s for a Heroic Happy Meal, Takis, and social extensions for Liquid I.V. brought the story beyond the theater through limited-edition collaborations, retail activations, and digital campaigns that invited audiences to engage with the film long before opening weekend and long after the credits rolled. Some people couldn’t even escape the Spider-Man ads from their own BMW IRL, but we’ll have to agree that was overkill.
Product placement helped get brands into the story, while the partnerships keep the story alive in the real world. The box office shows that the combination proved to reach one of the largest audiences ever.
As fans become harder to reach across fragmented streaming platforms and social feeds, blockbuster entertainment campaigns continue to provide shared value: studios ride a free wave of brand media, while brands reach consumers creatively beyond transactional media placements. Spider-Man: Brand New Day shows it’s not just about getting a logo on the screen, it’s about building an ecosystem where product placements make the world feel authentic and partnerships extend that world into everyday life.
